Overview
Product Benefits
- Suitable for full-surface deck bonding
- Slightly thixotropic application behaviour
- Sound-deadening properties
- Elastic after curing
- Designed for marine deck substrates
Areas of Application
Suitable for bonding synthetic-resin deck coverings, except polyethylene and polypropylene, and for bedding teak plank decking on sub-decks. Compatible substrates include GRP, marine plywood, stainless steel, and steel or aluminium protected with suitable anti-corrosion coatings. Verify adhesion and compatibility under actual conditions.
Application
Surface preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil, dust and contaminants. Substrate treatment is essential for durable bonding; follow the relevant Sika® Pre-treatment Chart and confirm by testing.
Application
Apply over large areas with a notched spreader, using a notch depth of approximately 4 mm. The current Sikaflex®-298 guidance specifies processing at 10–35 °C, preferably 15–25 °C, with approximate consumption of 1.2 l/m².
Removal
Remove uncured adhesive with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Cured material must be removed mechanically; never use solvents on skin.
